BCA to lose 300,000 credit card customers

Bank Central Asia is bracing for a loss of 300,000 of its credit card customers after the recent acquisition of retail chain Carrefour by Bank Mega.

Bank Mega, whose owner Chairul Tanjung recently acquired 40 percent shares in PT Carrefour Indonesia, is reportedly planning to take over Carrefour credit cards.

BCA, Indonesia's largest private lender by assets, recorded a total 2.2 million credit card circulation in 2010, a 9 per cent increase from 2009.

Of the amount, 300,000 are BCA Carrefour credit cards, BCA general manager for credit cards Santoso said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Sunday.

Despite the likely loss, Santoso said, BCA was targeting a 30 per cent increase in credit card transactions this year.
