Sinowaja Malaysia’s Shir Nie Pang wins Executive of the Year - Energy at Malaysia Management Excellence Awards 2022

Her implementation of a fiscal policy ensured the employees’ welfare and the company’s survival amidst the impacts of the pandemic.

Shir Nie Pang, executive director of integrated power solutions provider Sinowaja Malaysia, was named Executive of the Year - Energy at the recent Malaysia Management Excellence Awards 2022 for her success in chartering the company in accordance with its strategic plans and diversifying the company's ventures post-COVID-19.

Pang, who is also Sinowaja Malaysia’s CFO, has foreseen the detrimental impact of the pandemic situation and initiated a fiscal policy. This was brought about by the effects of the pandemic on the economy, such as shortage of raw materials, congestion of shipments, and fluctuation of the currency rate, amongst others.

Notwithstanding the implementation of the fiscal policy, encouragement was given to the management of Sinowaja Malaysia that the fiscal policy would not be applicable to the staff remuneration packages or the business development of the company.

Following the implementation of the policy by Pang in early 2021, the company's reserve allowed it to compete in the telecommunications market in 2022, following the Malaysian government's JENDELA Project and the Sarawak government's SMART Project. The company's diversification into the telecommunications industry is part of its sustainability initiatives.

Moreover, whilst the market was on a downward trajectory and in sync with the implementation of the fiscal policy in 2021, all employees of Sinowaja Malaysia were subject to salary increments and were entitled to bonus issuances. The employees were retained and even had the highest number since 2014.

The employees were encouraged to share their thoughts, and their welfare was protected with greater effort. For instance, a channel for whistleblowing is created, and transparent grievance handling is implemented. These practices were contributed by Pang, who played a vital role in ensuring such practices were implemented properly.

“It would be a great appreciation to Ms Pang for awarding her this award. Her initiatives in the implementation of fiscal policy do not affect the welfare of employees and at the same time ensure the continued growth of the company throughout the period,” the company said about her.

The prestigious awards programme honours Malaysia's most outstanding leaders, innovators, and teams whose initiatives have brought tangible business results for the success of their respective companies. It also highlights employee engagement and COVID management activities that made beneficial impacts on the workforce or customers.
