Work Well: Looking into Allianz PNB Life’s employee well-being programmes

The company recognises that the key to its success is the health and well-being of employees.

It is undeniable that the COVID-19 pandemic compelled companies all over the world to begin rethinking their policies to adapt to a new work environment. For Allianz PNB Life, the biggest challenge was to achieve the same level of collaboration in a remote setup whilst also placing great importance on people’s mental health and overall wellbeing. 

Its Human Resources department took the lead in 2021 to develop “Work Well,” a holistic programme tackling mental and physical resilience, motivation and engagement, and work effectiveness. The overall goal of the programme is to address the concerns of employees, engage them to contribute and share their ideas on how to achieve the company's goals and objectives, as well as continue doing their jobs whilst maintaining their work-life balance.

For work, Allianz PNB Life drove the use of effective communication tools such as Microsoft O365 and WebEx to enable video conferencing, email direct marketing, project management dashboards, and chats to ensure business continuity. For engagement and camaraderie, it created a Facebook community and utilised Viber to strengthen communication and connection, as well as to promote positivity across the organisation.

The platform enabled the sharing of positive updates, initiatives, and check-ins for employees with concerns. It also allowed employees to have fun discussions and furthered digital engagement across the company.

Internal activities such as “Ask Alex”, which allowed anyone in the company to directly ask our President and CEO, Alexander Grenz, questions, as well as regular updates from its Mancom leaders, constantly engage and communicate to employees the support of the top management in grappling with the impacts of the pandemic. Quarterly town halls, Objectives and Key Results rallies, and a Purpose and Strategy Day also keep employees updated on the company’s performance and encourage their participation in achieving the company’s goals and objectives.

The Work Well initiative of Allianz PNB Life has generated positive results, as seen in the company’s annual global engagement survey. The company achieved a 5% increase in its Work Well Index, which is an indication of how well the employees' health and productivity are.

This was also supported by a 2% increase in the Employee Engagement Index, which measures the pride, satisfaction, advocacy, and loyalty of employees to Allianz PNB Life, and a 5% increase in the Meritocracy Index, which measures the extent to which the company’s culture of people and performance matters is lived by employees.

Allianz PNB Life’s commitment to ensuring the best experience for its employees has earned the recognition of the Asian Experience Awards 2022, with the organisation bagging the Philippines Employee Experience of the Year - Financial Services award. The prestigious awards programme aims to highlight the ingenious initiatives of creative companies delivering meaningful brand experiences to their stakeholders.
